I have to get a little mushy here... I heart Yelp, I do. And, more importantly, I heart Yelpers.
I am a nerd. I admit it up-front and with pride. I am also shy - surprisingly and painfully so. I have always had a small and tight group of friends - always. And, in the past year most of these people have moved away from San Francisco... this made me sad and lonely and for a while I felt like I didn't know where to turn to find new people to hang out with who would "get" me... because not everyone does... get me, that is.
Then I found Yelp.
One of the things I love the most about Yelp is that it is not just an online community - it's a in-person community. It's not about collecting friends or compliments or UFCs or what-have you... well, maybe it's a little about that... but, mostly it's about connecting with other people who are like minded, similar - or, have polar differences from you - but, are smart and funny and articulate and busy, cool, nerdy people... like you. Like me.
There are people on Yelp who I was friends with B.Y. (before Yelp) - there are people on Yelp who I am now friends with who's path may have never crossed mine if NOT for Yelp... for which I'm thankful.
Of course there are those people who are just acquaintances and some who I don't like and some who I disagree with on a regular basis... Like in any community.
This community is so vibrant and alive and welcoming... I love it all. Love everyone - even those I'm not especially close to or who I disagree with or who annoy me... because, despite these things, those people - Yelpers in general - are brave and put themselves out there to be judged and contribute to the world in ways that I think are amazing.
I'm in serious Yelp love here, people... with all y'all!
That is all.

She insisted that we (La Bonne Bon, me, Rosie & Ben) go there for dinner together last night.
The ambiance is cool - a little touristy - but, nice German ale house vibe going on.
The food... FING AMAZING. I had bratwurst, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes - I normally can't finish my meals when I go out to places with "comfort food" because it tends to be too much for me to digest - but, damn if I didn't nearly lick my plate clean. I'm some part German, so I appreciate good - GOOD - sauerkraut, this was amazing - sweet with a little tang, lots of spice & good pork flavor. The bratwurst was tres yummy & everything bled into the mashed potatoes to make an amazingly tasty mish-mosh of comfort food.
I'm actually still full from this.
Plus Rosie introduced me to Pomme Lambic - crap is that stuff yummy.
It was a good night - save a waiter knocking over Rosie's Cassis Lambic onto Ben's new sweater. Though we did snag a piece of German Chocolate cake because of it...
Yum!
This is not a place which one could eat at often, due to the richness and heaviness of the food - but, one you'll go back to often.

Not to mention the individual attention that the owner of the shop gave me in helping me to find what I wanted was really refreshing compared to going to a larger retail store (I won't mention names *coughvictoriasecretfredricksofhollywoodcough*) to find something fetching to wear for your fella.
Plus she'll special order for you if she doesn't have it in the store.
Awesome!

Why, you ask? Let me tell you: cheap awesome greasy diner food that cures hangovers. You can order for pickup (which is convenient for me as I live two blocks away.)
The reason I REALLY love this place?

I could go on and on and on... it's like a cheesy slice of my childhood rigth there behind a glass counter.
I love it!

They sat us quickly and brought us libations - a good thing for our motley crew. The food was decent & pretty well priced... nothing spectacular - I had a pretty standard burger. Overall, it was a good experience. My only complaints were as follows:
-The service was kind of slow (which, didn't matter so much b/c we were planning to sit and enjoy ourselves - but, still.)
-They made me give a CC # to make a LUNCH reservation - it was just weird.
Other than that - a nice place for corporate lunches - I'm sure I'll be back sometime soon.
This place is off the mark. I give them an extra star b/c I hear they have great take-out burritos... I guess were I to go back I'd try that option instead of the mish-mash of flavor I had this afternoon.

I had the petite fillet & 1/2 crab dinner... I probably took two or three years off of my life with this rich, delicious, fatty food... but, I don't care! Mama loves her steak.
The ambiance is kind of corny; but, the food defs is five star. Great wine list, good service... I will be back.

I bought two.
The second one - my favorite of the two - zipped up the side - I took it on vacation with me. The first time I tried to put it on the zipper broke.
However: I had thrown out the tag. Still had the receipt, though.
I took it back today - expecting that they would either give me a hard time about returning it or make me take store credit.
Nope - they refunded my cash.
With a smile.
I did look around for the same dress; they didn't have it anymore. Sadness. Oh well - at least I got my $$ back.
Five stars for good customer service!

I had a grilled cheese with gruyere cheese & caramelized sweet Vidella onions on a French baguette... it was exactly what I wanted & was very tasty.
Granted, it was very expensive... but, I'd rather pay a little more for something I'm craving than eat cheaper & be left unsatisfied.
Not to mention, I'm a Top Chef junkie... so I'm all about supporting a Tom Colicchio establishment.

Of course, Nish & Jeremy & Russel - who jump started my career when I got interested in a Red Herring cover involving loli's & decided to tell my boss that we should pitch Yelp as a client.
I thank Yelp for all the laughs & love.
I thank Yelp for being a vehicle for me to highlight some of my more creative writing.
Yelp you're awesome - but, I've got a new baby now that demands all my attention (Meez) - they need me over there to help them grow & flourish into a robust community of tweens who will take over the Internets when Jeremy Stoppleman is in a retirement home rocking chair petting Darwin.
And, I just don't have enough time in my day to devote to you both as I properly should.
Thank you Yelp for showing me my professional path. For being my friend. For introducing me to my friends. For being such fun.
But this is the end of the road for Kate Sadistic K.
Bye-bye.
We'll always have Paris... yeah that doesn't make sense.
KISSES!
